Four Pillars Combatives

Four Pillars Combatives is a reality-based self-defense system designed specifically for real-world violence—not for sport, theory, or controlled environments. This system draws from training methods originally utilized in military, law enforcement, and security contexts, refining and adapting them for civilian use without sacrificing effectiveness. 


Unlike a single martial art, Four Pillars Combatives is an integrated system that combines MMA, wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, submission wrestling, boxing, Muay Thai, Kyokushin karate, Eskrima, and functional fitness into a cohesive, pressure-tested approach. Rather than concentrating on one range or set of rules, it prepares you for the complete spectrum of a real encounter, where striking, clinch fighting, grappling, and weapons can all be involved.


Training encompasses every phase of personal defense, including: 

- Situational Awareness & Prevention – recognizing threats early and avoiding danger when possible 

- Decision-Making Under Stress – employing concepts like the OODA Loop (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act) to act quickly and decisively 

- Striking – utilizing punches, elbows, knees, kicks, and close-range tools like headbutts 

- Clinch Fighting – mastering control, positioning, and dominance at close range 

- Takedowns & Control – bringing an opponent to the ground while maintaining an advantage 

- Ground Survival & Fighting – focusing on escapes, reversals, positional dominance, and submissions 

- Weapons Awareness – understanding edged weapons, improvised tools, and their impact on the fight 


Training in this reality-based self-defense system is pressure-tested, not theoretical. Students practice techniques, apply them against resistance, and engage in training that uncovers weaknesses while building genuine capability—not just rote memorization. 


A defining feature of Four Pillars Combatives is the training environment. Sessions are frequently held outdoors and in diverse conditions to simulate real-world situations—such as uneven ground, confined spaces, environmental stress, and unpredictability. This approach fosters balance, awareness, adaptability, and the ability to perform under less-than-ideal conditions.


Fitness is thoroughly integrated into this self-defense system. Strength, conditioning, and endurance are developed alongside technique to guarantee that skills endure under fatigue and stress. You’re not just getting in shape—you’re becoming more capable.
