FOUR PILLARS COMBATIVES

FOUR PILLARS COMBATIVES

Two men engaged in intense combat training with a knife and fist.

Four Pillars Combatives is a reality-based self-defense training system designed for real-world violence—not sport, theory, or controlled environments. It draws from training methods originally used in military, law enforcement, and security settings, refining and adapting them for civilian use without losing effectiveness.

This is not a single martial art—it’s an integrated system.

Four Pillars Combatives combines MMA, wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, submission wrestling, boxing, Muay Thai, Kyokushin karate, weapons training, and fitness conditioning into one cohesive, pressure-tested approach. Instead of focusing on one range or rule set, it prepares you for the full spectrum of a real encounter—where striking, clinch fighting, grappling, and weapons can all come into play.

Training covers every phase of personal defense:

- Situational Awareness & Prevention – recognizing threats early and avoiding danger when possible

- Decision-Making Under Stress – using concepts like the OODA Loop (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act) to act quickly and decisively

- Striking – punches, elbows, knees, kicks, and close-range tools like headbutts

- Clinch Fighting – control, positioning, and dominance at close range

- Takedowns & Control – putting an opponent on the ground and maintaining advantage

- Ground Survival & Fighting – escapes, reversals, positional dominance, and submissions

- Weapons Awareness – understanding edged weapons, improvised tools, and how they change the fight

Training is pressure-tested and not theoretical. Students engage in private training sessions where they drill techniques, apply them against resistance, and train in ways that expose weaknesses and build real capability—not just memorization.

A defining part of Four Pillars Combatives is the training environment. Sessions are often conducted outdoors and in varied conditions to reflect real-world situations—uneven ground, confined spaces, environmental stress, and unpredictability. This develops balance, awareness, adaptability, and the ability to function when conditions aren’t ideal.

Fitness conditioning is fully integrated into the system. Strength, conditioning, and endurance are developed alongside technique to ensure skills hold up under fatigue and stress. You’re not just getting in shape—you’re becoming more capable.

At its core, Four Pillars Combatives is built on three principles:

- Simplicity – techniques that work under pressure

- Adaptability – the ability to adjust to changing situations

- Control – managing distance, position, and outcomes

The goal is simple: prepare civilians, first responders, and professionals with practical skills, confidence, and resilience for real-world self-defense.

No fluff. No wasted movement. No reliance on rules.

Just training that works when it counts.

MMA

FOUR PILLARS COMBATIVES

Two MMA fighters sparring in a gym with Four Pillars Combatives branding.

MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) at Four Pillars Combatives is a complete, integrated fighting system built by blending multiple disciplines into one functional approach. We combine Muay Thai, Submission Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Kyokushin Karate, and Boxing to develop a well-rounded skill set that works across all ranges of combat. Our MMA training is offered through private training and small group training only, allowing for focused coaching, detailed instruction, and faster progression. Training emphasizes four key areas: Striking (Standing) involves using boxing, Muay Thai, and Kyokushin Karate to develop punches, kicks, elbows, knees, and conditioning. The focus is on power, timing, distance, and durability. The Clinch (Close Range) acts as the bridge between striking and grappling, encompassing control, positioning, knees, dirty boxing, and setting up takedowns. In Takedowns & Control, drawing from wrestling and grappling systems, you learn how to dictate where the fight takes place through takedowns, trips, and positional dominance. Ground Fighting (Grappling) utilizes submission wrestling and BJJ concepts, enabling you to develop control, escapes, and submissions, while maintaining or regaining dominant positions. What makes MMA effective is not just the techniques—it’s the ability to transition between all ranges seamlessly. You learn how to strike, clinch, take down, control, and finish, while adapting in real time. Training develops fitness conditioning, timing and distance management, pressure and composure under stress, offensive and defensive awareness, and the ability to apply skills in real scenarios. At Four Pillars Combatives, MMA is trained for performance and application, not just sport—building individuals who can operate across all phases of a fight with control and confidence, including through self-defense training.

WOMEN’S SELF-DEFENSE

Women's self-defense training promotes power, confidence, fitness, awareness, and support.

Women’s Self-Defense at Four Pillars Combatives focuses on practical, real-world personal protection—not sport, not competition, and not unrealistic techniques. The training is designed around the situations women are most likely to face and emphasizes simple, effective actions that work under stress, incorporating essential fitness conditioning to enhance physical readiness.

The primary goal is survival: recognize danger early, avoid when possible, respond when necessary, create space, and get home safe.

Training begins with situational awareness and threat recognition—understanding environments, identifying red flags, and avoiding dangerous situations before they escalate. Students learn how to carry themselves with awareness and confidence, reducing the chances of being targeted.

A strong emphasis is placed on boundary setting and verbal skills. This includes assertiveness, command presence, and verbal de-escalation—knowing how to use your voice to deter, disrupt, or disengage before things turn physical.

When physical defense is required, training focuses on high-percentage techniques that are easy to learn and apply under pressure:

- Escapes from common grabs and holds (wrists, hair, chokes, bear hugs)

- Breaking contact and creating distance quickly

- Defending against being pushed, pulled, or taken down

- Ground survival—getting back to your feet if taken down

- Simple, effective striking (palms, elbows, knees, low-line kicks)

Students also learn how to fight from disadvantaged positions, manage panic, and continue functioning under stress. The focus is not on trading blows—it’s on disrupting the attacker, escaping, and disengaging.

Training also includes decision-making under stress, helping students stay composed and act decisively in high-pressure situations.

Women’s Self-Defense is offered in two formats:

**Workshops & Seminars**: These are group-based sessions designed to build awareness, prevention skills, and core self-defense fundamentals. They are structured, easy to follow, and ideal for beginners or groups (friends, organizations, workplaces). The focus is on giving you usable skills quickly in a supportive environment.

**Private Training**: Private lessons allow for a more personalized approach. Sessions can be tailored to your specific concerns, routines, and scenarios. This format allows for deeper skill development, more repetition, and training at your own pace—building confidence and competence faster.

This program is about preparation, not fear. You don’t need years of training to improve your ability to protect yourself—but you do need the right self-defense training. Simple. Practical. Effective.

- Close-range striking and clinch-based drills

- Ground movement and get-ups

Sessions can also include weapons-based cardio drills, using training tools like sticks or improvised objects to develop:

- Hand speed and coordination

- Reaction time and timing

- Grip strength and endurance

- Flow, rhythm, and continuous movement under fatigue

These drills are fitness-focused, designed to improve performance and movement while introducing basic weapon awareness in a controlled environment.

- Improved strength and muscular endurance

- Better coordination, balance, and agility

- Enhanced mental focus and stress relief

You’re not just burning calories—you’re building the ability to move, strike, and perform under pressure. Plus, with options for private training, you can tailor your experience to your individual needs, including self-defense training.

It’s structured, demanding training aimed at building physical capability, mental toughness, and the ability to perform under fatigue and stress, making it an essential part of your fitness conditioning.

These sessions draw inspiration from military-style conditioning and combat sports training, focusing on functional movement, work capacity, and durability—not just aesthetics. The goal is straightforward: to make you stronger, faster, more conditioned, and harder to break.

Training encompasses:

- Timed circuits and high-intensity intervals

Training is often conducted in outdoor, field-based environments, adding challenges like uneven ground, weather, and space constraints. This builds adaptability and prepares you for self-defense training outside of controlled gym conditions.

Boot Camps are scalable, allowing beginners to modify intensity and volume, while more advanced participants can push pace, load, and output. Everyone trains together—but at their own level.

Unlike traditional fitness programs, Boot Camps at Four Pillars Combatives are geared toward real performance. The conditioning you build directly supports self-defense, combat training, and everyday physical capability.

Benefits include:

- Increased strength and muscular endurance

- Enhanced mental resilience and discipline
